Exposure Triangle v1

The rationale of the second assignment is "To understand the use aperture, shutter speed and ISO is the basic but essential skills in photography. It allows photographers to have more control over the exposure of their photographs."

We are required to capture 6 photos using straight photographic techniques:

Aperture:
1. Shallow depth‐of‐field ‐ Focus on foreground
2. Shallow depth‐of‐field ‐ Focus on background
3. Deep depth‐of‐field

Shutter Speed:
4. Freeze Action
5. Motion Blur
6. Panning

This week assignment, I went to the garden near my house, the overhead bridge of the CTE expressway and woodlands waterfront for the photo-shoot. Here's the photos for this week:

Shallow depth‐of‐field ‐ Focus on foreground

Focus Foreground 1

f/4.5, 1/40 sec, 38mm, ISO-1600
Comments:

Focus Foreground 2

f/5.3, 1/100 sec, 62mm, ISO-100
Comments:

Focus Foreground 3

f/5.6, 1/60 sec, 105mm, ISO-125
Comments: The focus is on the bar instead of on the ants.

Shallow depth‐of‐field ‐ Focus on background

Focus Background

f/5.6, 1/250 sec, 135mm, ISO-400
Comments: Background not really clear

Deep depth‐of‐field

Deep DOF

f/4.8, 1/5 sec, 42mm, ISO-1400
Comments:

Freeze Action

Freeze Action

f/5, 1/320 sec, 36mm, ISO-100

I find that this week assignment was quite challenging as I had to take lots and lots of shots to get something that is good. I must say that I feel so happy after I managed to get a good one for my swing freeze action after so many attempts! :) But I find that focus on background and motion blur is very challenging for me as I still failed after many many attempts! :(

Objects as Subjects v1

The rationale of the first assignment is that "Photography can serve simply as a visual book – a straightforward record of events, people, and places."

We are required to capture 5 photos using straight photographic techniques
1. Line
2. Shape
3. Form
4. Texture
5. Color
within NUS outdoor compound.

I had a hard time getting this assignment done! Firstly, I don't own a DSLR camera therefore, I need to borrow from the school. I felt happy that I managed to borrow one but I am so unlucky!! Guess what?! I got a camera that has problem and I had to return it so that it can be sent for repair!! OMG! PANICK, I couldn't do the first assignment! >_< But luckily I manage to find a friend to lend me his camera :)

So after I got the camera, I went straight to school to do the assignment but it rains after a while :( I'm like why is everything against me? Haiz :(

So, I had to shoot during a weekday after my lesson ends. Luckily it didn't rain that day. :) I went over to Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, University Cultural Centre and Office of Estate & Development to do this assignment. Here's the better shots that I took:

Line

Line

f/2.8, 1/160 sec, 46mm, ISO-100
Comments: Does not show line strong enough due to the distraction of rain drops.

Shape

Shape 1

f/8, 1/250 sec, 38mm, ISO-100
Comments: Might be better if i crop it

Shape 2

f/5.6, 1/500 sec, 105mm, ISO-100
Comments: Nice form instead of shape

Form

Form 1

f/2.8, 1/60 sec, 70mm, ISO-110
Comments: Not 3D enough

Form 2

f/6.3, 1/250 sec, 48mm, ISO-100
Comments: Maybe I should take only part of it so that it is more 3D-ish

Texture

Texture 1

f/5.6, 1/60 sec, 105mm, ISO-160
Comments: I should crop it or take a closer shot

Texture 2

f/2.8, 1/60 sec, 34mm, ISO-400
Comments: Take a close shot

Color

Color

f/5.6, 1/100 sec, 90mm, ISO-100
Comments: None

I don't know what's focal length (lens) when I am doing this first assignment, so some of my photos didn't satisfy the technical aspects of focal length (lens): 35‐50mm! So sad :( I need to find some free time to retake all of them..
